Local Government
The hunt is over for Broken Hill City Council's new General Manager after Mayor Wincen Cuy announced yesterday afternoon that Therese Manns had been appointed to the role.

Mrs Manns is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Financial Administration and is currently the General Manager for the Boorowa Council in NSW, a position she has held for the last two and half years.

In 2005 the Local Government Managers' Association awarded Mrs Manns the prestigious 'Aspiring Young Manager of the Year award'.

Mrs Manns has held several senior positions in regional and rural councils and has also worked at private accounting firms.

Mrs Manns will become Broken Hill's first female General Manager.

Mrs Manns was quoted in the Broken Hill City Council's media release (see link here) as saying "I am very honoured to be selected as the new General Manager of the Broken Hill City Council.  With many changes currently taking place in local government state wide, I look forward to working with the Mayor, Councillors and the community to ensure Broken Hill remains vibrant and that Council has the capacity to ensure strength and sustainability into the future."

I wish Mrs Manns every success in her new role which she is expected to take up on 1 August.

Electoral Commission NSW

2012 New Broken Hill Councillors.  See link here for the latest on this story.

A couple of interesting links will take you to all the intricacies of the vote tallies, see Candidate in Sequence of Election for the summary of results, and here for the breakdown and all the details.
The counting of votes and preferences is a very involved process, so no wonder it took nearly a week for the final results to be announced.

Again congratulations to the winners.
Cheers, Jane D

I can officially say congratulations to Mayor Wincen Cuy upon his re-election for a second term as Broken Hill City Council Mayor.

He strongly fought off three other contenders, Peter Black, Darriea Turley and John Groenendijk (listed in order of percentage of votes – greatest to least.)

Results of the Mayor Councillor voting from the NSW Electoral Commission can be seen here or by clicking on the following link -

ftp://ftp.elections.nsw.gov.au/Results/LGE2012/EMA/Mayor%20DOP/Broken%20Hill/Mayoral-DOP.pdf

Mayor Cuy first became the Broken Hill Mayor after Council elections in December 2009.  Previously Broken Hill Council had been under administration for a period from 10 January 2007 until the election on 5 December 2009.

The names of the successful other nine Councillors should be available Thursday 13 September 2012 sometime during the day.

Broken Hill 2012 Local Government Elections-Results Not Yet Final

My information was sourced from here.
Note final results can be found here on a later post.
Local Government
Preliminary figures.  Please note my reporting of the results is unofficial and counting is incomplete.  I have taken my information from the Electoral Commission NSW.  It is my reporting of the summary of the first preference figures as they are presented on that site at the time of this post i.e. 9 September 2012-today. There are still preferences to be counted that could influence the final result, so it is still too early to tell who the final winners are.

13,591 people were entitled to vote as at 30 July 2012.  Voters are however entitled to enrol up to and including the election day.  The progressive total of ordinary votes is 11,236 votes counted at the time of writing.  Of these, there are 9,157 formal votes and 2,079 informal votes.

Late last tonight, Sunday 9 September 2012, I noticed that there had been quite a lot of readers for my last night’s post regarding the election results and as there has been some variation in the order of the rankings to date, I have updated my interim results list – see below.  I am issuing this update due to these changes, but I won’t continue to do so until the final results are in.  I have just listed the top 12 names, in order of the number of votes tallied to date per candidate and obviously doesn’t include preference votes.

Electoral Commission returning-officer Mr Darren Flowers noted counting will continue from Monday morning and will take three to four days to complete.

Please wait for the final results before you start to celebrate or drown your sorrows.

Names in bold are existing Councillors.

I will report the final results when they are available.

1 TURLEY Darriea
2 GALLAGHER Dave
3 GROENENDIJK John
4 BLACK Peter
5 STEER Ray
6 ADAMS Christine
7 LICUL Branko
8 BROWNE Marion
9 TUCKER Alan
10 KENNEDY Tom
11 ALGATE Bob
12 COWDREY Josh

Unofficially, it appears very likely that the immediate past Mayor Wincen Cuy has been re-elected as the Mayor.  Preferences however are still to be counted.

As at very late this evening on the actual day of the election, the candidates are listed below in order of their number of votes today.  Names in bold are existing Councillors.
