The Broken Hill (and Silverton) art galleries list has been updated on my ilovebrokenhill website.

Please scroll to bottom of the site for an up to date list of all the galleries in #BrokenHill and #Silverton.

There are over 25 galleries. There could even be more which you may stumble upon. New ones seem to spring up quite often.

As of this date, the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery is hosting several art exhibitions. The gallery has an active exhibition schedule. See their website for details.

The West Darling Arts at the Town Hall Facade space has a current exhibition and the Broken Hill Art Exchange (BHAE) has just moved to the Grand Guesthouse this week. The BHAE is just finishing setting up after their move, so not ready for visitors for a week or so. All three exhibition spaces are in #BrokenHill's main street - Argent Street. See my gallery list for the exact addresses.

NAIDOC 2015 - We All Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate

This year, NAIDOC week runs from Sunday 5 July to Saturday 12 July 2015, so we are right in the midst of this important annual Australian event.

NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The event is held each year on the first full week of July.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

The theme this year is "We All Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate".

The host city for the National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony is Adelaide. A special awards ceremony and ball will be held in that city on Friday 10 July.

Every year the recipients of the National NAIDOC Awards will be announced in the following categories:

• Lifetime Achievement Award
• Person of the Year
• Female Elder of the Year
• Male Elder of the Year
• Caring for Country Award
• Youth of the Year
• Artist of the Year
• Scholar of the Year
• Apprentice of the Year
• Sportsperson of the Year

Nominations for the 2015 National NAIDOC Awards have now closed.

In Broken Hill, West Darling Arts is hosting a special exhibition "We All Stand on Sacred Ground" which is an exhibition showcasing Aboriginal Art from the West Darling (Western Region of NSW).

Broken Hill Town Hall Facade

Participating communities include Broken Hill, Menindee, Wentworth and Wilcannia. These communities are home to incredibly talented artists and include works on canvas and sculptural works. All Aboriginal artists from the Western Region of NSW have been invited to participate.

The exhibition is on at the Town Hall Facade Gallery -

256 Argent Street (the main shopping street) in Broken Hill.

The official exhibition opening was last Friday night 3 July.

The exhibition runs from 29 June to 17 July 2015, Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.

Find out more about 'The Arts and Cultural Development Program' (ACDP) tomorrow when Arts NSW visits Broken Hill.

The ACDP is the NSW Government's major grants program for arts and culture. Arts NSW administers the program on behalf of the NSW Government (and falls under the 'Trade & Investment' 'branch' of the NSW state government.)

If you can't make the #BrokenHill session tomorrow, they're in Dubbo as well on that day. Staff have been touring other NSW regions and you can find out where on that same website. (Today they're in Tamworth & Wollongong). Newcastle is also slated for a visit with the date to be confirmed.

Gaara Arts Off the Wall exhibition opens tonight

Gaara Arts (Gaara) members are putting on another exhibition which opens this evening at the Broken Hill Town Hall Facade.  The "Off the Wall" exhibition includes 39 artworks, the works are for sale and I've been told that nothing is priced over $900.

The exhibition is being opened by Christine Adams, Chair of West Darling Arts.  Christine was recently re-elected to Broken Hill City Council in a May By-Election.

Local paper the Barrier Daily Truth covered the story yesterday 21 June 2013 page 2.

The exhibition details are as follows -

I'm in Melbourne so unfortunately I can't make it.  As always, if you can get along to the opening tonight, or the exhibition at some stage, readers would love to hear your comments on what you thought of the exhibition.

The photograph at right is one of the artworks in the exhibition and is of two mosaic mirrors by well known Broken Hill mosaic artist Julie Anne Horsburgh who with her husband Rod, run the fabulous Jarrah Mosaics gallery at - 169 Chapple Street, Broken Hill.

I've visited Jarrah Mosaics and it is well worth adding to your Broken Hill itinerary. The gallery is open daily 10am - 4pm.

I mentioned I'm in Melbourne but it's not all bad as I have a special viewing of the National Gallery of Victoria's Monet's Garden exhibition on tonight, so I won't be totally missing out.
