Broken Hill Chamber of Commerce networking opportunity Friday 8 August - Demo Club

Broken Hill Chamber of Commerce (BHCC) will launch its Business After Five Club this evening at the Demo Club later today. The event should soon become a regular fixture for local businesses to network.

I am a huge fan of networking. It can lead to so many positive outcomes for your business and/or social life. It's also great for meeting people who share a love of your particular passion, hobby or sport.

... Business After Five Club ...

Tonight, from 5pm, you will have the chance to network with fellow Broken Hill business operators to share ideas and create alliances. Hopefully enhancing the outcome for both parties (the best form of networking).

As well as networking, Small Biz Connect Advisor Fran Savage will speak about this new Broken Hill business support 'presence'.

The event will provide an opportunity for business advisors to meet Fran and learn how the program can drive business success and increase economic sustainability in the region.

The venue is the The Barrier Social Democratic Club at -

218 Argent Street, Broken Hill NSW 2880

Cost is free for BHCC members and Small Biz Connect Clients, and $10 for non members.

The Barrier Social Democratic Club in Broken Hill is celebrating it’s 110th anniversary.

The Club's Marketing Officer Jenna Millagan says with many events planned it’s a great chance for locals to show their support for the Demo Club.

“It would be really great to see everyone come down to the Club for the weekend and support the Club and it’s members and really get involved and see what we’ve got to offer” said Jenna.

It all sounds like a lot of fun.

I'm a member of the Demo Club and it's a great local Broken Hill club. It's a real local institution.

Enjoy, cheers, Jane D

AFL 2012 Grand Final, and Grand Final 2009 in Broken Hill

Yesterday was that “one day in September” and okay, so it wasn’t Hawthorn’s day ;-(  That’s annoying.  Anyway, congratulations Sydney Swans on winning the 2012 AFL Grand Final yesterday.  The final score was Sydney 14.7.91 defeated Hawthorn 11.15.81.

Living Desert Sculpture Park
It’s all over for another year.

I’m pictured here at the Living Desert Sculpture Park on a trip this time three years ago when I was visiting briefly with some friends who’d not been to Broken Hill before.  We watched some of the game at the Demo Club (Barrier Social Democratic Club) after arriving from Mildura at about 1.30pm on Grand Final Day 2009.  Hawthorn (my team obviously) wasn’t a contender that time, that was the year Geelong defeated St Kilda.  Hawthorn’s last win was in 2008 when they defeated Geelong.

Monkey Box at the Muso Club
My friends stayed less than 24 hours, they were on a very tight schedule.  They really enjoyed themselves.  We went to the Muso Club (Broken Hill Musician's Club) that night and one of my friends is a guitarist and the band playing that night Monkey Box let him play a couple of numbers with them which was a buzz for him, and of course made our stay more memorable!

Once again the Willyama Art Society (WAS) is holding their annual art exhibition.  Their first exhibition was in 1961, so this is their 51st exhibition.  This year they are dedicating it to long time WAS member Mrs Joyce Condon who died earlier this month aged 95.  The exhibition has been named “The Joyce Condon Memorial Exhibition”.  There are over 50 paintings by 18 established and budding artists including Jenny Cattonar, John Gregory and Mick Andrich.

The works are for sale and span a variety of mediums from pastels to watercolours.  Prizes were also awarded on the opening night last Friday 21st September and Mrs Condon’s son Len Condon officially opened the exhibition on that night.  The Society is open to both adults and children and new members are very welcome.
