The 50th annual St Patrick's Races were run today in Broken Hill. There were eight races altogether. The main race was Race 6, the 1600 metre Clubs NSW & Keno 'Outback Cup'.
Twelve horses competed in the 'Cup' and No. 3, the 5 year old chestnut 'Brimming', trained by Morphetville trainer Gordon Carter and ridden by apprentice jockey Zac Spain, took out the race ahead of 2nd placed Tresette and 3rd placed NZ horse St Ives. Tresette also came 2nd last year, but won the Cup in 2013.
Altogether there were 138 nominations to start in the 8 races. Racing co-ordinator Trevor Odgers was amazed at the figure, having not seen anything like such a number in years.

I wish I could have been there. I went to the 47th St Patrick's Races in 2012. It was the first time the race had been held on the actual St Patrick's Day itself. (See my blog post of 18 March 2012).
It's definitely an experience worth having.
Cheers, Jane Deany
