8 March is International Women's Day! Do you know your history? http://t.co/8pJm4RJBcr #IWD2015 #Beijing20
— UN Women Watch (@UNWomenWatch) March 7, 2015
IWD (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday. IWD was first officially celebrated in 1911.Here is the link to the dedicated website - www.internationalwomensday.com . Australia has 208 official events listed to help celebrate the day.
As the day draws to a close, I hope you've been able to celebrate IWD in some special way, or at least remember the occasion and reflect upon how far women have come, and how far they still have to go to achieve equality.
Cheers, Jane Deany
