ilovebrokenhill.com , was first published on 8 December 2011 by Jane Deany. My blog is all about the famous outback Australian National Heritage Listed City named Broken Hill, located in the state of New South Wales. I first visited #BrokenHill in 2002 and have returned many times since then. ilovebrokenhill.com will help you discover what's great about this historic mining city, where in the mid 1880's the line of lode, a rich ore body of silver, lead and zinc was found. You will find stories about anything related to Broken Hill.

I've seen a lot of Deirdre's work, she's very talented. You may well find a nice piece to add to your collection.

All the best Deirdre, I hope the exhibition is a success for you.

Community Event
There's less than four weeks to go to Broken Hill's 'flagship' annual event, the 49th running of the St Patrick's Day Races.

This year - 2014 - the event will be held on Saturday 15 March. There will be a 'recovery day' the day after in Silverton. Broken Hill locals loves to be social and the weeks leading up to the races will see a range of events. Details to come.

Links to some of the relevant information about the races are below -

Main race results can be found on my later post - see link here.

It's a great time of the year to be in the city. I went up with a friend in 2012 and we had a fantastic time.

If you've never been to this event it's great fun. It makes for a wonderful excuse to tie in a visit to the city, especially if you've never visited Broken Hill before.

I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Don't forget to bring something green to wear, although we found not as many people actually wore green as we had expected.

Cheers, Jane Deany

Fly Rex to Broken Hill from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Mildura

I am not into advertising businesses (especially for free) on this site, however, I want to encourage people to travel to Broken Hill via the local airline service Rex Airlines (Regional Express) because if people don't use the service enough, it may not be there in the future. It is like an essential service, especially given how far Broken Hill is from other major cities.

Broken Hill is approximately -

1146 km from Sydney
837 km from Melbourne
510 km from Adelaide, and
297 km from the regional city of Mildura (population 30,000 approx.)

I've flown to Broken Hill from Adelaide via Rex and it's a great service. It provides a unique aerial view of the outback as well.

Once you get to Broken Hill you can hire a car if you want.

Flying to Broken Hill is certainly a fast way to reach the city and well worth considering. As with anything, the business (Rex) needs to be supported or it won't be sustainable for the airline to continue providing the range of services that it does.

See this ABC News report on the subject here.

Cheers and happy flying, Jane Deany

Australian Local Government Women's Association NSW Annual Conference in Broken Hill

Community Event
The Australian Local Government Women's Association NSW Branch's Annual Conference for 2014 will be held in Broken Hill.

Dates are March 20 - 22, 2014.

Check out their website for more information www.algwa.org.au

Why not coordinate your visit with the St Patrick's Day Races which are on Saturday 15th March this year. Festivities always continue the day after, and there's usually plenty on in the week leading up to the races as well. Broken Hill really knows how to do events well.

Start planing! Cheers, Jane Deany
