My blog is all about the famous outback Australian National Heritage Listed City named Broken Hill, located in the state of New South Wales. I first visited #BrokenHill in 2002 and have returned many times since then. ilovebrokenhill.com will help you discover what's great about this historic mining city, where in the mid 1880's the line of lode, a rich ore body of silver, lead and zinc was found. You will find stories about anything related to Broken Hill.

St Patrick's Day Races 17th March 2012 Broken Hill

2012 sees the running of the 47th annual Broken Hill St Pat's races, held at St Patrick's Race Club Broken Hill.  For the first time in the history of this event, it will be run on the actual day - the 17th March.  I must say I was surprised to learn this fact.  Apparently, the timing of Easter has historically had something to do with what day the race could be held.  Whatever the case, the occasion is the biggest event of the year in Broken Hill and is world reknowned.  People come from far and wide just to be a part of it.  I certainly hope to attend this event at some point.  Possibly this year, but not certain yet.  Everyone I know who's been says it's a really fun day.  I'm sure they're right.

Finish Line at St Patrick's Race Club

The photo of the finish line at the St Patrick's Race Club shows mine head frames holding the horse shoe and shamrock.  Very Broken Hill.

The festivities begin on 7th March with a St Pat's Fashion Show at the Broken Hill Civic Centre.  On Friday 16th March is the St Pat's Games Night at the Club Legion.  On the day after, 18th March, there's the St Pat's Recovery Day at the nearby historic Silverton.

Cheers, Jane D
